Kudlu Teertha Falls & Avalakki Gudda trek - Agumbe_8th & 9th Sep 2012

Place: Kudlu Teertha Waterfalls, in Agumbe. The Kudlu Teertha falls which is at a distance of about 20km from Augumbe is a very beautiful waterfall of about 126 feet. The water drops from the top to the bottom in one big leap and is great sight to watch lying there on your back. To trekk to Kudlu Theertha Falls one has to take a left detour before 6 kms to Hebri, another left after another 3-4 kms. The road will end at the banks of river Sita. There is a Burma bridge on the right side to cross the river. After that one has to walk for 4 kms inside the jungle. There will be a small stream which has to be crossed to reach the foothills and from here a 3-4 kms of trekking will take you to this location.

Kundadri - This is a place from which one get an amazing Sunset and Sunrise. The tourists travel a distance of about 14 kilometers from Agumbe to see this beautiful sight. It is situated at a height of about 900 meters above the sea level. This place also houses the temple of Humcha Jain Mutt whose main attraction is a pond which is percieved to never dry.
And an exploratory trek to Avalakki Gudda near Srimane Waterfalls at Kigga.

The team: Rishab, Chethan, Vani, Usha, Kshma, Pratap, Girish Motwani, Girish NL, Naveen, Prabhakar, Shivanand, Kantha and Vishwa

I was dying to go to Kudlu Teertha since early 2012. Even during our Narasimha Parvatha trek in May 2012, I tried to convince my fellow trekkers to go there but in vain!

Finally, during the monsoon I got a chance to go there. We left Bangalore on 7th Sep. 2012 night.

8th Sep: We reached Agumbe by 7 AM. We went to Doddamane, got refreshed, had breakfast, packed lunch and left for Kudlu Teertha. My friends cum guide Venkatesh was with us. After travelling for an hour or so by TT we reached the trek starting point.

Trek Started
Seetha Nadi..

March is on...

View of Kudlu Teertha ....the real Amazon

The team - we halted here, a village of very few houses nearby..
One the way we stopped for a while. Venkatesh went to the villages nearby. Initially we though he went to meet his relative. But when he returned, we understood the real cause. He broght some tobacco leaves and salt as the most natural leech repellent.

And we continued the journey..
Very soon we crossed a overflowing stream or a river with knee deep water. And then one more.

Finally we reached our destination....

Mesmerizing Kudlu Teertha...
We spent few hours....it was full of water, drizzle, rain and the water from falls.....made it the real water world. It was really great to be there during monsoon as the mother nature will be in real beauty. On the way back it started almost pouring, it was full of leeches. None of us could take any pics. After finishing the trek we went to Doddamane for lunch and left for Kundadri betta.

The temple at the top

We came back to Doddamane for night halt. Next day plan was to go to a view point where from we could see the Barakana falls. Because during monsoon due to leeches its remains almost inaccessible. After dinner all of us retired to bed

9th Sep: We changed the plan and decided to go to Srimane falls at Kigga. On the way we saw Jogi Gundi falls.

On the way to Kigga, we halted here for photo shoot
The Girish & Girish...

Srimane falls, 2012 monsoon
We visited Srimane falls during the Monsoon of 2011. See the pic below.

Srimane falls during 2011 monsson
Its so sad that due to weather change and increasing global warming the rain receded. Our treknic was about to end here. But we did not want to return from here. Few of us and Girish NL enquired at the nearby shop about the trek options there.

The shop where we inquired about the trek options...

And we started marching ahead...

Soon we were on the top

And the trek ended with a nature retreat........

That was the end of the trek cum trip.....
